Privacy Policy

Where Am I is an Android app made by Alex Apkhaidze. It is currently free to use. This page explains what information the app uses, where that information goes, and the choices you have. It describes how the app works today; when that changes, this page is updated.

Location

Where Am I uses your device's precise location to show where you are, your address, and how accurate the location fix is. The app's main screen needs precise location access to work.

If you turn on Auto-update widget in the app's settings and allow location access all the time, the app also uses your location in the background, including when the app is closed, to keep the home-screen widget up to date. This is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off in the app's settings or change location access in your device settings.

The app does not currently send your location to me. Some features send location data to Google so that they can work:

I do not sell your location.

Saved places

Places you save are stored on your device, and the app does not currently send them to me. If Android backup is turned on for your device, app data, including saved places, can be included in your device backup with your Google account. You can delete saved places in the app, and uninstalling the app removes them from your device.

Sharing your location

When you share your location, the app creates a message with your address, your coordinates and a link to wai.aleksandre.net, and sends it through the app you choose. The link contains the shared coordinates. Anyone who opens it loads a page from wai.aleksandre.net, which is hosted on GitHub Pages.

Usage statistics and crash reports

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which features are used, for example which buttons are tapped. Firebase also collects standard information such as device model, operating system version, app version, and an approximate region based on IP address.

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to report crashes and errors. A report contains technical details such as device model, operating system version, app version, the time of the problem and details of the error.

Third-party services

The services above are provided by Google. Their privacy policies:

The app can open links to sites that I do not operate, such as Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and I am not responsible for their content or practices.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and have a concern, please contact me.
